Best Rust Sensitivity & FOV Settings (2026 Guide)
How to find the best Rust sensitivity, ADS sensitivity and FOV for you, the mouse settings to fix first, and why they matter for recoil control.
Your sensitivity and field of view decide how well you control recoil, whether you're pulling down yourself or using a Rust script. Here's how to find settings that work, step by step.
Step 1: Fix your mouse first
Before touching Rust's settings, get your mouse consistent:
- Turn off mouse acceleration in Windows. Go to Mouse settings, then Additional mouse options, and untick Enhance pointer precision. Acceleration makes the same hand movement move your aim different amounts, which ruins muscle memory.
- Pick a DPI and stick to it. 400, 800 or 1600 are all fine. What matters is not changing it.
Step 2: Choose your field of view (FOV)
A wider FOV shows more of the screen, so you spot players sooner, but it makes distant targets smaller. Most competitive Rust players run their FOV at or near the maximum for awareness. Whatever you choose, keep it the same, because FOV changes how far your aim moves and how big the recoil looks.
Step 3: Find your sensitivity with the 360 test
Instead of copying someone else's number, find what fits your arm:
- Stand still in game and line your crosshair up on something.
- Swipe your mouse across your mousepad in one comfortable, full motion.
- If you turned much more than 180°, lower your sensitivity. If you barely turned, raise it.
- Aim for a sensitivity where one full swipe turns you roughly 180° to 360°.
Lower sensitivity makes spray control and tracking easier. Higher makes turning faster. Most players who care about recoil control lean lower.
Step 4: Set ADS sensitivity
Your aiming-down-sights (ADS) sensitivity controls how fast you move while scoped. Start at the default, spray a few magazines, and only change it if aiming feels too fast or too slow compared with hipfire.
Step 5: Test with a real spray
Settings only matter once you shoot. Spray an AK at a wall or target and watch where the bullets go. Our AK recoil pattern guide shows what an uncontrolled spray looks like, and our free Recoil Range lets you practise in your browser.
Why your settings matter for Rust scripts
A Rust script pulls against recoil by a set amount of mouse movement, and that amount depends on your sensitivity, ADS sensitivity and FOV. That's why the WipeReady Rust Script is matched to your exact settings. Change your sensitivity, update it in the menu too, and the spray stays on target.
Quick checklist:
- Mouse acceleration off
- One DPI, never changed
- FOV picked and kept
- Sensitivity found with the 360 test
- ADS sensitivity tuned by spraying
